Find the answers to many of your questions below, or contact us if you are unable to find your question.

Q: What are the STOP Hunger Scholarships?
A:
The STOP Hunger Scholarships, a program of the Sodexo Foundation, allow us to recognize students in the fight against hunger in America. You are invited to apply if you are a young person currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution (kindergarten through college graduate school) who has positively contributed to the fight against hunger in his or her community.

Q: Why did the Sodexo Foundation create the STOP Hunger Scholarships?
A:
We created the STOP Hunger Scholarships to recognize and reward the great steps young people are taking to fight hunger in our communities across the country. Through scholarship awards, we are proud to support the education of these giving young people.

Q: Who is eligible to apply?
A: STOP Hunger Scholarships are open to students (kindergarten through college graduate school) enrolled in accredited educational institutions in the United States. Applicants must have demonstrated on-going commitment to their community by performing volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States at least within the last 12 months. Volunteer services must help non-family members. Applicants must obtain a Community Service Recommendation as part of the application process. The Community Service Recommendation must be completed by a third party; this person must be at least 21 years old and may not be a parent, guardian or family member. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Employees of Sodexo are not eligible to receive a scholarship, but their family members who are not employees of Sodexo may apply. Previous STOP Hunger Scholarship recipients are not eligible.  Previous regional STOP Hunger Honorees are eligible to apply.

Q: What are the details of the award?
A:
We may select up to five national scholarship recipients; however, we reserve the right to select fewer than five national recipients. Each student selected as a national STOP Hunger Scholarship recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship, as well as a $5,000 grant made in their name to the hunger-related charity of their choice in their local community. If the student selected is in school, but is not yet enrolled in an institution of higher education, then in lieu of a scholarship, a contribution in the amount of $5,000 shall be made to a qualified 529 Plan established by the family of that student for the benefit of that student. Each national scholarship recipient will be recognized at the annual Sodexo Foundation Dinner on June 4, 2009 in Washington, D.C. All transportation, meals, and lodging for the student and up to two immediate family members will be paid for by Sodexo. We may select up to 20 regional scholarship honorees; however, we reserve the right to select fewer than 20 regional honorees. Each student selected as a regional STOP Hunger Honoree will receive a $1,000 grant made in their name to the hunger-related charity of their choice in their local community.

Q: How will national and regional STOP Hunger recipients be notified?
A: Scholarship recipients will be notified by April 2009, and a list of all winners will be posted on www.sodexofoundation.org by May 2009.  Only winners will be notified.
